Father Christmas is Watching, Says Kate Winslet

Count Kate Winslet among the many celebrity (and real!) moms who use Santa for leverage with their kids during the holiday season. During a Tuesday appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, the 33-year-old actress said that her 8-year-old daughter Mia Honey recently needed a gentle little reminder that Santa is always watching! Mia -- who was at the time fighting with her little brother Joe Alfie, turning 5 next week, over a toy -- then learned all about the dreaded North Pole letter stamping process. Recalled Kate,

"I said...'I just feel for you right now, because you know Father Christmas is just watching everything you do, and when he gets the letters he has a naughty stamp and he has a nice stamp. And you really want to wind up in the nice pile, Alright? So be nice.'"

The kids are not overly interested in Kate's career, she shared. While Joe is too young to grasp the concept of fame, Mia is more aware of mom's star status -- but not necessarily more impressed! Last week, after she received Golden Globe nominations for her roles in Revolutionary Road and The Reader, a parent at Mia's school congratulated Kate on the dual-achievement. "I turned to Mia, and she just [pretended to snore]," Kate laughed.

Mia is Kate's daughter with ex-husband Jim Threapleton; she has been married to Joe's father, director Sam Mendes, since 2003.

Courteney Cox-Arquette's Spellcheck Snafu

During a recent appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Courteney Cox-Arquette detailed her 4 ½-year-old daughter Coco Riley's love of all things Barbie, but Coco would like to clarify -- the love is gone! "I mentioned that Coco loves Barbies and she got really upset...she said 'I do NOT like Barbies," Courteney explained during a Tuesday visit to Jimmy Kimmel Live! "So that's gonna throw out the whole letter to Santa, it was all about Barbies!" She adds,

"I don't know what we're going to do. She got embarrassed. All of a sudden Barbies were not cool."

Courteney suffered some embarrassment of her own recently, when a well-intentioned email went horribly awry. The 44-year-old actress -- who is in the process of finding a kindergarten for Coco, and is hoping to receive a positive reference from her preschool -- said that all the parents received an email from the preschool teacher expressing excitement about the upcoming year. Courteney replied "nervously," for she "really wants the teacher to like [Coco]"... but disaster was about to strike!

"So I write her back, I do my spellcheck on my Blackberry, and I'm writing, like, 'Can't wait to see you on Wednesday...We're so looking forward to it! Love, Courteney and Cock," she recalled with a laugh. Much to her chagrin, Courteney soon learned that spellcheck doesn't recognize 'Coco' and instead switched her daughter's name to 'Cock.' "First choice, 'Cock.' I went too fast...So I wrote to the most wonderful school on earth, ever, 'Love Courteney and Cock,'" she sighed.

Coco is Courteney's daughter with husband David Arquette. Her new movie Bedtime Stories opens Dec. 25.

Trista and Ryan Sutter Sample Sweet Selections

When we last spoke to Trista Sutter, she and husband Ryan were promoting a new contest and partnership with Hyatt Regency, in which they would join the winners for a two-day, two-night, all-expenses-paid trip to the newly redesigned Hyatt Regency Huntington Beach Resort & Spa.

Since then, the Bachelorette couple -- and winners Joanna and Warren Simpson of Salem, Oregon -- have taken the trip, and also announced that their baby on the way, due in April, is a girl! Here, Hyatt Regency shares a few images of Ryan, Trista, Joanna and Warren enjoying a cooking lesson, courtesy of the hotel.

Joel Madden 'Definitely Not Against Adopting'

While pregnant with daughter Harlow Winter Kate, 11 months, Nicole Richie -- who was legally adopted by singer Lionel Richie at the age of 9 -- said that she was open to the possibility of someday adding to her family with partner Joel Madden via adoption. Joel tells OK! that the couple's stance remains unchanged. "I'm definitely not against adopting," the 29-year-old Good Charlotte singer and UNICEF celebrity ambassador explains. "I went to Central African Republic and fell in love with the place...If I was going to adopt, it would probably be from there." He adds,

"Nicole and I are very happy and eventually we'd love to have more kids, especially if they can all be as easy and wonderful as Harlow!"

Harlow is the first child for the couple, who began dating in 2007.

Proud mom Reese Witherspoon and boyfriend Jake Gyllenhaal accompanied 9-year-old Ava Elizabeth Phillippe to her holiday concert in Santa Monica, Calif. on Thursday. Jake brought Ava a bouquet of flowers to congratulate her with!

Accenting her dark wardrobe with a pop of red lipstick, Jordyn Blum -- expecting her second child in 2009! -- accompanied rocker husband Dave Grohl to the 31st Annual Kennedy Center Honors, held at the Kennedy Center Hall of States in Washington, D.C. earlier this month.

Dave, 39, and Jordyn, 32, are already parents to daughter Violet Maye, 2 ½.

Brian Littrell Discloses Son's Hospitalization

In a message posted to his official website yesterday, Backstreet Boy Brian Littrell revealed that his 6-year-old son Baylee Thomas Wylee has been hospitalized. "For those of you who do not know or have not heard, Baylee Littrell has been in the hospital for the past few days," the 33-year-old singer writes.

"He will be starting a treatment this afternoon and the Littrell family asks that all Backstreet Boys fans please remember him in prayer during this trying time."

Reminding that "every little prayer helps and every single prayer counts," Brian and wife Leighanne go on to wish fans a Happy Holiday. No additional details on the nature of Baylee's illness are provided, but Brian promises that more information "will follow."

Baylee is the only child for the couple, who were married in 2000.
