Cabinet Rallies Around Campbell
Duration: 3:07
Beleaguered leader gets by with a little help from his friends Victoria - The premier's closest lieutenants made a very public show of rallying behind their leader today. This was the first time since July 28 that the liberal cabinet gathered in the capital. And it is the first time many were asked about Gordon Campbell's future. The premier is deflecting calls to quit over the way he handled the HST. And everyone in his inner circle is in public at least singing his praises. Members of his own political party, suggesting its time for him to go. But not his closest cabinet allies, including Labour Minister Murray Coell, Health minister Kevin Falcon, Children and Family Development minister Mary Polak, and Transporation Minister Shirley Bond, who all spoke up for Campbell and his leadership. Some, including Coell, are at the top of anti-HST activists' recall hitlist. Coell says he thinks he'll survive any attempts to recall him and force a by-election in Saanich North and the Islands because he'll "work hard".
